- The Smith Mountain Lake State Park is one mile beyond the development and received
335,000 annual visitors last year. It has 20 year-round rental cabins.
- Just before the development, Route 608 intersects at White House, where a small
strip center houses a full-service restaurant, gas/convenience store, auto repair,
barbershop/beauty salon, boat repair and storage facility, attorney office,
fishing/boating supply store, and two real estate offices. The Huddleston Post Office
is in view of these businesses.
- In 2000, a winter traffic count near the development site counted over 3,000
vehicles per day
- The Bedford County Sheriff's Department has placed an annex at the Mariners Landing
office, across the street from the development
- Mariners Landing has developed vacation rental and golf packages to enhance the
"year-round" use of its 18 hole championship golf course and a conference center and
restaurant at The Pointe at Mariners Landing.
- Over 25% of area residents responded to a survey done in 1999, showing a distinct
interest in services at this location.
- Mariners Landing has over 1,000 acres and is in the early stages of development.
There are already nearly 300 units in Mariners, with nearly 100 sales (or resales)
occuring each of the last 2 years. M&J Developers, Inc. is continually opening new
sections to accommodate growth demands.
This development is phase one of what will be called EastLake Commons. M&J Developers, Inc.
is soliciting non-binding reservations for the lease of the commercial space in this
